02 March 2026, The Mediterranean Oil Industry Group (MOIG), the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds), the International Group of P&I Clubs (IG), and the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation (ITOPF) are pleased to announce that the Regional Workshop on Claims and Compensation, will take place from 19 to 21 May 2026 at Laico Hotel in South Hammamet, Tunisia.

This three-day workshop will provide a valuable opportunity for participants to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Claims and Compensation related to oil pollution incidents.

1. The main objectives of the workshop are as follows:
2. To gain an overview of the IMO Conventions – Civil Liability Convention, Fund Convention, Supplementary Fund Protocol, Bunkers Convention – and STOPIA/TOPIA.
3. To explore the roles of the IG P&I Clubs, the IOPC Funds, and ITOPF.
4. To obtain an introduction to the technical aspects associated with oil spills.
5. To identify the different categories of admissible claims and the procedures for submitting and assessing claims.
6. To understand how the IG, IOPC Funds, and ITOPF respond to incidents through case studies.
7. To look ahead to a future with alternative fuels.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills through a tabletop exercises, reinforcing the concepts learned during the workshop.

The working languages of the workshop will be English and French, with simultaneous interpretation provided. A detailed programme will be shared in due course.
